INSPIRATION FOR LIVING:  BE WELL & ENJOY LIFE TO THE FULLEST!

Inspiration for Wellness comes in many forms and can influence our life for years.

"Be Well & Enjoy Life to the Fullest!" was the generous wish sent to me in a letter written by William Jamison, a folk art gallery owner in Portland, Oregon, who had become a precious friend.

At an event in the Beverly Hills Hotel a few weeks before receiving this note,  William had revealed to me that he had contracted AIDS. It was 1994. The thought that my gentle friend would probably not survive brought tears to my eyes, and, in the midst of merriment at the party, my heart flooded with grief.

The paper I held in my hands did not offer encouragement about William's physical condition, but I was in awe of my dying friend's ability to continue to extend such generosity and positivity despite what he was facing.
As feared, that would be our last exchange.

William's message became a guiding principle in my life.
It took years for me to fully understand the depth of its meaning, let alone develop the ability to make similar choices in the face of life's difficult challenges.

Almost 40 years later, this principle and mindset for sustaining Wellness through positive choices is an important part of what I am sharing in private and group sessions (now on Zoom or by phone)

My deepest heart's wish is that I am fulfilling William's message in such a way that not only serves my own well-being, but provides inspiration as well.

GERO-TRANSCENDENCE                                                                                      Compassionate Aging:  Wisdom  that creates a positive quality of life

My Uncle Nathan in his 90's teaching himself Greek in Braille

GeroTranscendence is a term used to describe those seniors who have gained, or retained, an unconditional love and acceptance of themselves, of others and of  life  - despite   challenging circumstances and its mysteries.
This attitude has brought about not only WISDOM but, as modern medicine is showing,  WELLNESS in LONGEVITY as well.  This is enlightenment; a marriage or integration in Oneness of the "worldly" and the "spiritual" dimensions - an understanding that the two are not separate aspects of Being Human.
These wise elders have let drop their acquisition of many material things, have shed their masks and the roles they felt they needed to play [in order to be loved and accepted], are happy spending  time alone, as they no longer feel the need to be entertained as much as in their youth.  They appreciate community and connection too. And, they are making the most of their time.
Today I am thinking about my grand-uncle, Nathan Steingold.   Growing up, I saw him mostly at family gatherings.  I remember him as very small in physical stature but possessing a very strong enthusiastic and energetic presence.  He appeared to me as extremely intelligent and proud, and used a sharp sense of humor born of keen observation that some of our contemporary political comedians might envy.
As the elder members of my extended family passed away, Uncle Nathan lived on.   When I was in my 30's, I visited him in an assisted care facility.  He was in his 90's.  He was legally blind by this time, but very present and alert and seemed at peace with his life.  In fact, he had not given up his enthusiasm for learning.
My uncle  was teaching himself Greek--IN BRAILLE!
        The ENLIGHTENMENT of EMBRACING LIFE
As and as we delve more deeply into subjects such as "graceful aging", "conscious and compassionate aging", "living our wisdom" "transforming our life" in 2022 classes and workshops, we will shepherd shifts in our mindsets and points of view so as to allow ourselves to caringly and kindly accept ourselves AND our advancing years, and live them to the fullest!

"ABODE OF THE SPIRIT" ADAPTING ANCIENT HEALING TECHNIQUE IN NEW SEMINAR

PictureRyuho Yamada, Zen Priest and Healer inspired my healing journey 2001
DO-IN:  Geared to Transforming Emotional & Physical Pain

HEART, MIND, & HANDS™ Program - For Intermediate-level students of Self-Healing

In the mid 60’s, my late friend, Zen Priest and Healer, Ryuho Yamada, introduced Shiatsu to the West.   By the time met in the early 2000’s, his method was widely accepted as an extremely effective form of natural healing.

Designed thousands of years ago to increase the flow, harmony and balance of CHI-energy (addressing the polarities of yin and yang), both acupuncture and shiatsu evolved within the discipline of Traditional Chinese Medicine.  Acupuncture employs needles, and shiatsu uses applied pressure from fingers.

When Ryuho stayed with me a short while, he taught me Japanese healing chants and we exchanged healing sessions.  I was very impressed with his finger pressure method, as it was enhanced by his masterful intuition.  I was honored to be able assist him with relief from the painful symptoms of his colon cancer as he acknowledged my work as “Trans-personal Healing”.

Ryuho's work opened my mind.  Since that time I became interested in a third TCM healing modality: Do-in, which also uses finger pressure.  In addition, it incorporates awareness of the body through movement, breathing, and concentration—techniques and methods I had already been using. Do-in dove-tailed so seamlessly into my HEART, MIND & HANDS™ method and teaching program, I began offering it in several self-healing classes.  Shedding the finger pressure, the positive results continue to be very exciting.

My approach to wellness and well-being places great emphasis on transforming energy--to release not only physical pain, but “stuck” and over-active emotional energy.  This results in the opening of the Heart center, allowing the spirit to soar.   REMEMBERING:  MindBody is the Abode of the Spirit

A special training program geared to Intermediate students, or those with deeper practice in self-healing, that includes my adapted model of Do-in / “Abode of the Spirit” practice will be offered very soon.
I will let you know when and where.
Until then, BE WELL & ENJOY LIFE TO THE FULLEST!

ALLOWING LIFE TO SHOW WHAT'S NEEDED TO KNOW
I'm not saying it's easy, but don't lose sight of the fact the everything is always changing. . . even the difficult times which sometimes seem endless.
It is hard not to lose hope when we are hurting - mentally or physically.
The I Ching says "perseverence furthers".  Words of wisdom to 'hang in there'.  Great positive transformation can come through severe challenge.
